CosmoDerm is used for minor skin defects, such as the fine lines (crow’s feet) around
the eyes, the tiny vertical lines above the upper lip, and shallow acne scars. CosmoPlast,
which has slightly larger particles, corrects more serious defects, including the
deep “smile lines” (nasolabial folds) that run from the nose to the corner of the
mouth, brow (glabellar) lines, and severe acne scars. Both can help define the border
of the lips.
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast are often used in conjunction with other cosmetic skin
treatments, such as laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and anti-wrinkle injectables
(Botox and Dysport).
How does it work?
Collagen, a structural protein, serves as one of the basic building blocks of
the body. It gives skin its strength and toughness. When it breaks down—as it does
eventually—skin sags and forms wrinkles.
CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast replace lost skin collagen, thus reducing some of the visible
signs of aging and too much sun exposure.
What is the treatment like?
These fillers are placed just under the skin in a series of simple injections.
They contain the numbing agent lidocaine, so you may not experience any pain. The
number of injections you receive will depend on the size of the area being treated.
Treatments generally last less than 30 minutes. You can return to your regular activities
immediately. You may experience some minor redness, swelling, or bruising, but these
side effects usually disappear within a few days.
How long do the treatments last?
Effects are immediate and typically last 3 to 4 months. Regular touch-up treatments
(2 to 3 a year) can keep your face from returning to how it appeared before treatment.
Often, less collagen is needed during the touch-up sessions than was used in the
initial treatment.
